QlikView
South
Africa
says sales of its groundbreaking business intelligence (BI) tool are set
to more than double in 2008 compared to 2007. “As of the end of May
we’d already sold more licences than we did during the whole of 2007,”
says MD Davide Hanan. “The response from our customers supports our
belief that QlikView is finally offering what the market has been waiting
for over the past 20 years.”
Business
intelligence remains the top technology priority for CIOs around the
world, according to a Gartner Executive Programs survey released earlier
this year. The organisation predicts the overall BI market will continue
to grow strongly, by 11.2% in 2008. Gartner expects BI sales to be little
affected by the economic downturn because of the high priority it enjoys
thanks to its strategic value.
QlikView is
set to be a major beneficiary of this focus, growing faster than any other
BI platform in 2007 according to Gartner’s 2008 Magic Quadrant for
Business Intelligence Platforms. Gartner reported that QlikView was
already being considered a BI standard by midsize global firms, and that
it had the highest proportion of customers reporting no technical problems
out of all the BI platforms surveyed.
Hanan says QlikView is a disruptive technology in the BI market. “In
South Africa
, we’ve grown from nothing to become the preferred BI tool in the
country in just four years. This is because we have reinvented BI, we have
redefined its rules and we have delivered on its promise.”
“Traditional
BI tools are primarily glorified report generation engines. They will
still be around for a while, but purely for historical reasons; they are
essentially legacy systems based on a 20-year-old technology that will be
replaced in time. More than 50% of our clients in
South Africa
were using a traditional OLAP-based BI tool before they started using
QlikView,” says Hanan. “This is not surprising for us. After all, who
would buy a new car with a 20-year-old engine in it?”
